The Bay of Islands Toastmasters Club is located in Corner
Brook and received its charter in June, 1984. The club
was organized by a steering committee headed by Daphne Nolan.
Others committee members were; Mike Walsh,
Maureen Walsh, and Margaret MacIssac. The committee was formed in
late 1983. The committee was assisted in their efforts by John Reid and Jehu Dodge,
members of the Apollo Portunus Toastmasters Club in Gander. John and Jehu travelled
to Corner Brook and attended the first meeting of the club at the Glynmill Inn on
March 1, 1984. The club held its Charter Night in September, 1984. The Charter
was presented to the club by Corner Brook Mayor George Hutchings. The Charter Night
ceremony was conducted at The Glynmill Inn.
The Charter Executive were; President: Daphne Nolan, VP
Education: Gerard Marche, VP Administration: Joe
Loder, Secretary: Margaret MacIssac, Treasurer: Maureen Dicks,
and Sergeant at Arms: Lynn Thorne.
