The Iron City Toastmasters Club was first
established in the late 60's or early 70's largely through the efforts of
Paul Dufort. (Paul is now living in the Gander area). The club ran for a
few years and then folded. It was re- organized in the fall of 1981 by
Gord Parsons. Partly as a result of a diminished population because of
cutbacks at the mines, the club folded again in the mid 80's.
In the spring of 1990 the club was re-established, once again, through
the efforts of three ladies; Rene Alexander, Shirley Squires, and Nellie
Button.
The Charter Executive included President: Gerry Suek, VP of Education:
Rene Alexander, VP of Administration: Katherine Burgess, Secretary: Ruth
Larson, Treasurer: Hubert Mouland and Sergeant at Arms: Dwight McInnis.
Dwight died shortly after at age 30. He had a congenital heart problem
and died while playing basketball.
Gerry Suek was a former member of the old club. He has been President
since the club was established in the Spring of 1990. Other CTM's are
Glenn Vincent. The club has at least one ATM, Hubert Mouland.

A successful speech has a catchy beginning and a powerful ending. Both
of which are kept closely together.
