The Memorial Toastmasters Club is the latest
addition to the Toastmasters' family in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Memorial Toastmasters applied for their charter in early November with 22
charter members.
The club was co-sponsored by Terra Nova Toastmasters and Cabot
Toastmasters clubs. The sponsoring member was Pat Dunne, ATM.
Pat was contacted in the spring of 1994 by Brent Smith. Brent is a
graduate geography student, doing his Masters at Memorial University. He
was a member of UWO Toastmasters Club (University of Western Ontario) for
two years and was interested in forming a club at MUN. An organizational
meeting was held Wednesday, Sep. 28, 1994. Pat Dunne gave a presentation
on Toastmasters to the 50 people in attendance. The club had its first
meeting Wednesday, Sep 28, 1994.
The Charter executive were; President: Brent Smith, VP Education:
Dominic Reardon, VP Membership: KimWilliams, VP Public Relations: John
Smith, Treasurer: Andrea Marshall, Secretary: Kristen Smith, and Sergeant
at Arms: Rochelle Zorzi.
