Past Toastmasters Clubs

Over the years there have been several clubs that had been created and then eventually folded. There are currently few details available on any of these clubs. Here are some of the clubs that have been identified;

xwave Toastmasters Club (8367-U) St. John's

The xwave Toastmasters Club received its charter on 25 September 2000. The club was sponsored by xwave and was organized by Cabot Toastmasters Club from St. John's. The Charter Night ceremony was conducted on 29 January 2001 at the xwave office on 40 Higgins Line in St. John's.

xwave Toastmasters was a closed club. Membership was limited to Newfoundalnd-based employees and contractors of the Aliant family. This club produced two ATMs (Sarah Hanna and Damien Gillis).

The club folded in 2005

Conception Bay South Toastmasters (9675-U)

The Conception Bay South Toastmasters Club was sponsored by Dick Reeves and Joel Sweeney. In addition Toastmasters Gary Lane, Frank Walsh, and Pat Dunne played key roles in getting the club started. On Thursday April 15, 1993 an information night was conducted at the CBS Kiwanis Club, to establish if there was enough interest to start a Toastmasters club in the area. The meeting was attended by 25 very enthusiastic individuals who insisted on starting the club immediately.

The first meeting was held on Tuesday May 25 at the Legion in Kelligrews. This meeting was attended by Fred Dawson, DTM from Quebec. Fred was a guest of member Boyd Slade. Fred attended the 1973 International Conference and had the honour of seconding the motion to include women in the Toastmasters organization.

The club officially received their Charter at a dinner and dance held Sat. Feb 19, 1994. The charter executive were; President: Paul Walsh, VP Education: Frank Walsh, VP Membership: Fred Holloway, VP Public Relations: Dennis Hopkins, Treasurer: Judy Warford, Secretary: Richard Grouchy and Sergeant at Arms: Barabara Simmonds.

The club folded in 1998.

Cabot Confederates Toastmasters (6543-U)

The Cabot Confederates Toastmasters Club was chartered in early 1987. It was a closed club, open to Newfoundland Provincial government staff. The club met every Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Department of Development and Tourism on the 4th floor of the West Block of the Confederation Building. The President of the club in 1987 was Juanita Keel-Ryan. The club published a newsletter entitled "Matthew Express".
